About the Artist: 

Marc Folly is a Professional painter who has been living and working in Lyon, France, since 1993, having studied art at the Ecole d’Arts Appliqués de Lyon. Watercolour is his preferred medium. Over the years he has honed his skills to reveal the hidden force in this fugitive technique.

A lover of strong lights and deep, powerful colors, Marc Folly has a knack for off-beat and complex subjects that often stem from the more mundane aspects of his encounters. Whether it be in urban or industrial scenes, he strives to reveal imprints of human labor in various types of workshops. He captures the evidence of thought processes as they appear within cluttered and seemingly messy spaces devoted to creation and transformation.

The Workshop:
 
“A lot of elements go into the making of a painting: drawing, composition, graphic design, using colour and values to create contrast and harmony, abstraction, figuration etc.

Every painter favours one of these elements, but far from being neglected the other aspects are also present and treated in accordance with the first.

I would like to invite you to follow my path, the one that characterises my art: paying attention to contrasts and studying the value scale, from black to white through every subtle shade of coloured grey.

There can be no light without shadow; shadows give birth to light and underline the painting’s composition making it more forceful. Vibrant colours slip in between or are superposed over these zones of contrast.

My pedagogical approach employs a gradual step-by-step method with illustrated handouts and plenty of advice and demonstrations of watercolour technique, which are the strengths of my teaching”.-Marc Follley

Terms and Conditions: The Kanata Art Club reserves the right to cancel a workshop where there is insufficient registration.  You will be notified and issued a refund or e-transfer for the full amount.

To withdraw prior to the start date, please contact: treasurer@kanataartclub.com.  A full refund (or e-transfer) less an administrative fee of $25.00 will be issued if a written request is received on or before April 30, 2026  There will be no refunds issued beyond April 30, 2026 unless we can fill your spot from a waitlist.
