About the Artist
Linda Hillier is a Canadian artist whose work reflects a lifelong dedication to exploration,learning, and creative expression. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and studied at the Falmouth School of Art in England. Working primarily in watercolour, oil, gouache, and acrylic, Hillier brings both technical skill and emotional depth to her paintings. Her classical training in drawing, life drawing, and colour theory forms a strong foundation for an ever-evolving body of work inspired by curiosity, travel,
and lived experience.
Throughout her artistic journey, she has taught numerous courses and workshops, continually discovering new ways to interpret the world through visual language. Her art celebrates the dynamic relationship between observation and imagination, and the endless possibilities of
seeing the world anew.

Join Linda for a fun workshop where you will discover the world of water mixable oil painting. Linda will provide an overview of the medium and materials followed by a demo of their use. – – –
- Learn how water mixable oils differ from traditional oils.
- Discover how to use water mixable oils on two different substrates : regular canvas board/masonite and yupo paper.
- Learn how to use Cobra medium with your traditional oils to make them water mixable.
During the workshop you will have an opportunity to experiment with oil paints ; traditional and/or water mixable oils using both new methods and materials.
Walk away feeling confident and ready to expand your creativity.
Supplies
- Materials to bring for the demo exercises:
- Traditional oils if you have them.
- Cobra medium mix. ( Available at Aboveground art supplies, Amazon)
- Paper towels
- Spray bottle
- Small (8×10”) panel or masonite. You may prime this with acrylic if you prefer working on a toned surface.
- Drawing board
- Yupo paper
- Regular drawing instruments
- Water mixable oils* (Linda’s preferred brand is Cobra); bring whatever brand you have.
- Linda will have some Winsor- Newton water mixables available.
- If buying cobra water mixable oils, just the primaries needed.
- Brushes: 1 large and one small flat, a couple of rounds and a larger brush for the underpainting.
- Palette knives for mixing.
- Tabletop easel if available.
