Artist Statement

“Having painted in both watercolour and oil paints, the versatility of acrylic has been dominant for the last number of years. I work mostly on large canvases, for the love of the visual impact of size, which can dominate the visual field, and still allows one to get lost in the abstract of texture and details.

Born in Plymouth, England, raised in Toronto, studied at the Ontario College of Art, and for the last twenty-some years residing in rural Grey County in the heart of Niagara Escarpment country has provided me with a wealth of inspiration. My driving force has always been a need to create, in all mediums: wood, stone, plastic, and metal, but mostly in paint. It is much like hunger – the longer it goes without expression, the greater the outpouring of creative energy. My goal is to always grow as a painter, oh and, I guess, as a person as well.”

The Class

Peter John Reid is offering an intensive six week acrylics master class, by ZOOM.  A very small number of artists will have the opportunity to work on four to six paintings, using references of their own choosing.  Peter will guide you through each stage of the painting process, from composition to the finishing touches.  The emphasis will be on brushstrokes and mark making, initially.  Peter will demonstrate throughout the six weeks, addressing the learning needs of each of the participants.

This will be an outstanding learning opportunity with a renowned acrylic artist and excellent teacher.
